Types of Tests

Diagnostics for Windows gives you the ability to choose different categories of
tests, depending on the need to save time or troubleshoot hardware problems.
The types of tests under Diagnostics for Windows are:

Quick Test - This predefined test performs a quick test of basic hardware
components, including system board memory, hard drive, CD-ROM drive, diskette
drive, modem, and sound devices. It is recommended that users select Quick
Tests when running most tests under Diagnostics for Windows in order to save
time.

Complete Test - This predefined test performs a more thorough test of basic
hardware components than the Quick Test, and includes PC Speaker tests and
Video Modes tests. Complete Test is recommended only when you are experiencing
difficulties and have been instructed to run a Complete Test by Technical
Support.

Custom Test - This is a user-definable test option that allows you to select
variations of tests.

Test Modes

Diagnostics for Windows contains two different types of test modes:

Unattended (default) - Under Unattended mode, tests run automatically without
test prompts or user input.

Interactive - Under Interactive mode, Diagnostics for Windows prompts the user
to perform actions that are necessary in order for the test to pass. Examples
of interactive tests include the Speaker Channel Tests, Keyboard Tests, and
LED Tests.
